Hullo all! I'm pretty new to Olympia and am DYING to spin some fire! I really consider firedancing a community thing, so I generally don't spin alone. I spin poi and have done staff a couple times (would love to learn more). I'm looking for a group to get together with to play music (drums, guitar, kazoo, whatever!) and fire dance (poi, staff, jugglers, hula hoopers, and everyone else!). Who's with me!
Or if anyone knows of some people already doing something like this, or could point me in the right direction, that would be awsome too! =)

Shireen is coming in February to spin Poi with the students at my school. On the weekend she will be doing some workshops for adults.
Let me know if you still interested, she will only be signing up to twelve students at a time, 25.00 per student.
She was also a spinner at BM.

Actually what I'm looking for is just to get together with people of all levels and have a sort of "fire jam." I've been spinnning poi for quite a few years now (have also spun at burning man), and I've taught a couple of people too. I'm no expert, but I feel classes are best just for the basics.
Sounds like a great opportunity though =)
Do you know of anyone in the area who currently is familiar with fire dancing?

a few folks and I get together a couple days a week to spin fire, juggle, and play with acrobalancing. we will eventually do some show, but have been more into being with eachother and committing the time to play, learn, and explore what each has to offer. we will meet tomarrow (wednesday) ~6 or 7 pm. sundays are also a night we gather. give me a call if you are interested, which it sounds like you are.

I'm just getting into fire spinning and would love a local group. I've had just a couple lessons, from a gal in Seattle, so I'd love to have a local group in Oly to be with. Thing is, Wed and Sunday evenings are tied up for me as I play in two different samba bands which practice those nights. Sunday days I'm free. Are any of you interested in being in the Procession of the Species? One of my bands (Samba Olywa) is playing and, this year, we're in the Fire element!!
Anyone interested in getting together Sunday afternoons? Or Monday or Friday evenings?

Fri, March 31, 2006 - 11:31 AMI recently moved to the Olympia area as well and I am in love with fire spinning. Fact of the matter is I have always been the dancing, happy observer and never an actual participant. I wonder if a beginner like myself could attend that workshop or tag along with spinners in the area. I am always willing to drag my trusted guitar along. I would love to learn to spin, and willing to take the proper steps to do it right if peoples are willing to set me on the correct path. I will keep my eye on this post...hope something comes together!!

Thu, April 13, 2006 - 2:57 AMCultureseed will host a FireJam gathering on thursday, 4/20 at the Biscay St. house from dusk until 11pm. Anyone with an interest in participating is welcome. Previous fire experience is not required, and all abilities are encouraged to share the light!
Please bring white gas, lamp oil, or a cash donation. This evening will be a FUNdraiser for our upcoming May events!
